POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORTS

What is P.B.S.?

The aim of PBS is to build a school environment in which students learn that exhibiting positive behavior is more advantageous then exhibiting problem behavior.  PBS seeks to replace undesired behaviors with new, more appropriate ones.  It teaches appropriate skills and rewards desirable behaviors, thus positively altering the educational environment.

The Process
  • Teaching students our Expectations for Behavior.

  • Rewarding students when they meet /exceed our expectations and follow our rules.

  • Consistency in our school processes and procedures.

  • Use of Data to identify problems and to make intervention decisions.

What are "BARK Bucks"?

The BARK Bucks slips are opportunities for the Riverwood staff to recognize your child for demonstrating positive behaviors.  All BARK Buck slips are submitted for weekly school-wide draws.  The children whose names are drawn receive a variety of rewards.  Weekly rewards will be smaller, with larger rewards awarded monthly and at year end.

What does "BARK" stand for?

The acronym BARK represents the following important life-long character traits that our students will carry into all areas of their lives:

The Benefits

  • Reduces disruptive behavior, thus increasing academic achievement.

  • Maintains a less restrictive environment for all students by creating a more productive and safe school culture.

  • Increases the capacity of teachers to address classroom behavior problems.
